On March 1, 2024, Computer Professionals, Inc. (�þ�91) virtually hosted a successful GENIISYS Users Circle (GUC) Get-together to share our vision for 2024 with our valued clients.

The GUC Get-together is an annual event that �þ�91 hosts for the general insurance companies who use our flagship insurance ERP, GENIISYS. This interactive session provided an in-depth look at the exciting developments planned for our insurance solution in the coming year, designed to further empower our clients and propel their success.

A Glimpse into the Future: Software Enhancements Tailored for Client Needs

The webinar focused on the roadmap for upcoming upgrades to GENIISYS. These include expanding the suite of automated tools, improved security and the continuous application of regulatory requirements such as IFRS17, eReceipting, and ease of paying taxes. The roadmap also covers new functionalities such as work flow and improvements to Accounting functionalities. Grace Miralles, �þ�91’s VP for Solutions and Service Delivery, said that “We are excited to share these advancements which address our client feedback and evolving industry demands, ensuring our clients have access to an industry-leading solution.”

A Fresh Look: Unveiling the Updated GENIISYS Logo and Engagement Programs

Premier Insurance Upgrades Their Systems to �þ�91’s GENIISYS Subscription!

On August 14, 2023, Premier Insurance signed a new contract for GENIISYS Subscription, kicking off the start of the project.

Premier Insurance is a long-time GENIISYS client, having used the core software since 2011 in a perpetual, on-premise model. Over time, Premier’s servers reached their end-of-life and support was difficult to obtain. Thus, Premier saw the need to move into digital technology platforms to support their core system requirements as well as to gain competitive advantage.

�þ�91 offered Premier the opportunity to renew their GENIISYS license with the GENIISYS Subscription model. This allowed Premier to upgrade their software ensuring they received access to up-to-date technology and upfront investment savings through the subscription’s inclusion of database licenses and infrastructure set up and management. Moreover, with the new updates and add-ons to GENIISYS, Premier saw more potential to improve their business processes with an enhanced version of GENIISYS. To quote Phillip Lee, Premier Insurance’s Director, “�þ�91 has been very helpful and professional in ensuring a smooth implementation and upgrade of our existing system. Thus, GENIISYS incorporates these regulatory and compliance requirements providing users with the tools to efficiently capture, process, and generate compliant documents and reports.

�þ�91 Hosts Insurance Industry C-Suite Gathering, Journey to Embracing Innovation

On September 22, 2023, �þ�91 in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), hosted an Insurance Industry C-Suite Gathering at the AWS office in BGC. This event was co-hosted by the Philippine Insurers and Reinsurers Association (PIRA) and the Insurance Institute for Asia and the Pacific (IIAP). This was a 2-sessions event, aimed at bringing together C-Suite level representatives from the insurance industry to engage in discussions about digital trends and to spark action within the industry to help create an environment that would bring the Philippines to the forefront of digital adoption.

�þ�91’s President and CEO, Carl Ventura welcomed the attendees by highlighting the importance of digital adoption in today’s world, saying that “whether we like it or not, the future is already here”. Ito Gruet, �þ�91’s EVP, then opened the presentation and discussions by stating to have “Digital Pilipinas”, we first need to learn to continuously adapt to change.

An On-Demand World and Differences in Technology Advancement

Our main speaker was Naveen Asrani, AWS’s ASEAN Head for Strategic Growth, Digital Native Businesses and ISVs. As an advocate for promoting adoption in the Philippines, Naveen began with how we are living in an on-demand world and how industries and countries have transformed and adapted through this new reality. He then shared India’s 7-year digital transformation journey that began with a small group of young nationalistic Indians, the cooperation of a handful of companies and the government, who are now considered one of the world’s most ambitious and successful, transforming the lives of over 1 billion Indian citizens through financial inclusion enabled by simple yet effective digital platforms.

The Industry’s Response to Change

After Naveen’s presentation, the group engaged in an interactive session led by a panel of Insurance Industry executives – Marissa Dela Cruz and Francis Papa from Insurance Institute for Asia and Pacific (IIAP), Jef Lacson from Pacific Cross, and Cindy Gernan from Natre – together with �þ�91’s Ito Gruet, they invited the audience to share the challenges that their businesses face in the digital age which included security, legal regulators, and data concerns. From there, it became a very interactive discussion of how those challenges can be addressed and what other possible steps can be taken to drive digital adoption within the industry. To sum up our exchanges, Francis Papa stated, “It’s alright to start small as long as you start”.

Quoting British mathematician Clive Humby that “Data is the new oil,” Naveen remarked that just as oil fueled the industrial revolution, data is fueling the digital revolution. It is the key to unlocking innovation, efficiency, and growth in every industry as data can be used to track trends and develop policies that can be beneficial to users. In short, data is essential for success in today’s world, and we must learn to adapt to stay ahead of the curve.

Carl Ventura closed the event and reiterated �þ�91’s commitment to innovation both in technology and for the insurance industry. By encouraging collaboration within the industry and opening more discussions on our challenges, we can work together to take actionable solutions and changes in being a digital-ready industry.

(IIAP) and held at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Makati City. With the theme of “Climate Change: A Deadly Threat to Mankind – Taking the Lead Towards Sustainability and Resilience”, this event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss climate change and its impact on insurance, including Non-Life, Life, and Reinsurance markets. �þ�91’s GENIISYS Users Circle (GUC) Get-together is back with a face-to-face event that took place on March 21, 2023, at the AWS offices in BGC.

The GUC Get-together is an annual event that �þ�91 hosts for the general insurance companies who use our flagship insurance ERP, GENIISYS. After holding the get-together virtually in the last two years, �þ�91 welcomed the GUC in-person once again in an event partnering with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Embracing Change and Creating Something New

It’s not a surprise that the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the business landscape and our successes depended on our ability to embrace change and continuously improve. Now, organizations must adapt and evolve to remain competitive in the post-pandemic world. Hence, the theme for this year’s GUC was “Rising to Greater Heights: Business Success in the Post Pandemic World”. The get-together had an exciting workshop and activities to unlock creative thinking and help the attendees achieve greater success.

The program was kicked off by Ms. Ito Gruet, �þ�91’s EVP, followed by an insightful discussion on “Transformation and Innovation in Insurance” by Gurindar Singh, Asia-Pacific-Japan Head for Insurance of AWS. GENIISYS Users Circle Get‑Together goes Virtual

�þ�91 hosted its annual get-together with the GENIISYS Users Circle (GUC) on February 24, 2021. The GUC consists of member non-life insurance companies who use our flagship insurance ERP, GENIISYS.

What traditionally was an out-of-town gathering, became a virtual event. Nevertheless, we tried to make it as insightful and enjoyable as possible by incorporating a creative session with a talk relevant to the GUC members. Participants were sent kits so that they could create their own Lithops living stone plant arrangements.

The creative exercise was followed by Mr. Julius Uy (VP for Engineering at Hubble) who imparted words of wisdom on Scientific Leadership and advice on how best to lead IT teams. Julius’ talk was followed by a meaningful Q&A session.

The event was capped by a presentation on the GENIISYS product enhancements in 2020 and our Roadmap for 2021. This was done by Grace Miralles, who heads �þ�91’s General Insurance Solutions and Services Group.

Taking �þ�91’s Java Boot Camp to a New Level

Since its beginnings over 30 years ago, �þ�91 saw the importance of growing the Philippines pool of IT talent to effectively grow our company. One of the first practices we put in place was to open recruitment to fresh graduates and career shifters wanting to pursue a future in IT. We developed intensive entry-level boot camps to train qualified candidates in the technologies prevailing at the time. Today, this comes in the form of the Java Boot Camp, a 6-week, full-time training program that aims to train participants to become proficient web application developers on the Java platform. The course is a combination of lectures, hands-on exercises and group and individual case studies to enhance learning and ensure that the skills learned can be applied. The sessions cover topics such as Java basics, web development, SQL, database programming, frameworks, object-oriented design, and test-driven development. The teachers are actual developers and software architects with years of practice building state-of-the-art software solutions.

The demand for software developers has increased during the time of COVID as organizations are realizing the need to quickly transform into the digital age. To address the requirement for training while adhering to quarantine guidelines, �þ�91 launched its online version of the Java Boot Camp. The same material is covered except that it uses video conferencing platforms and online tools which still allow for optimum interaction between teachers and course participants. The first batch graduated in mid-July and have already been assigned to projects.
